Samir has been with us for almost a year. He spent 29 days in a clinic in Bucharest. At first he couldn't move at all. The MRI showed that his brain has been underdeveloped since birth (cerebellar hypoplasia), and that is where the ataxia comes from.
When he left the clinic, nobody expected him to live another year. Samir is still here. He gets phenobarbital twice a day, at 6:30 and 18:30, so he doesn't have seizures.
He can't walk on his own. Every day I hold him under his tummy so he moves his legs and his muscles don't waste away. He weighs only 900 grams, and normal wheelchairs are for cats over 2 kilos. His has to be made to measure, and very light.
With a wheelchair, Samir could move on his own, with us beside him.
